Matt Murray has not played since January 17th when he gave up 4 goals on 8 shots against the Florida Panthers. He then aggrivated an ankle injury during warmups against Ottawa on January 27th and has been out of the lineup ever since. This is the second time Murray will have missed an extended period of time this season due to injury, as he missed a month earlier this year with an adductor injury, which he ironically suffered before he was scheduled to face the Senators back in October.

The good news, however, is that Murray took a massive step forward in his recovery today. He took part in on-ice drills before with goalie coach Curtis Sanford prior to the Leafs' regularly scheduled practice. When the injury first occurred, it was announced that Murry would be out week-to-week while he rehabbed his ankle and it would seem that he could be closer to returning than first expected - though I'm sure the Leafs will be extra cautious with the playoffs coming up.

In 19 games this season, Murray is 11-5-2 with 1 shutout. In those 19 games he's posted a .911 save percentage and a GAA of 2.73. He had played stretches of the season as a top goaltender and there's certainly hope that the 28-year-old can get back to playing at that level as the playoffs approach.
