In the final year of his 8-year deal, which has paid him $10.5M per season, Jonathan Toews has been the subject of trade rumours since the summer. With the trade deadline just two weeks away, speculation had increased over the past few days about whether or not he and Patrick Kane would be waiving their no-movement clauses and leave a rebuilding Chicago Blackhawks team.

While Kane seems to be more open to leaving, Toews has apparently made a decision about his future as well. According to Avalanche reporter Adrian Dater, it appears as though Toews has decided to stay put and remain in Chicago. Toews was placed on Injured Reserve retroactive to February 7th. The captain of the Hawks and 3-time Stanley Cup champ has struggled mightily the last two seasons, seeing his production drop from 60 points in 2019-2020 to 37 points last season and just 28 in 46 games this season.

Toews would have been a coveted deadline piece as many teams are looking for a third line, shutdown center but it would appear as though teams will now have to look elsewhere. With that being said, the price to acquire the likes of Ryan O'Reilly and other centers just went up because of the Toews news. The more scarce the market, the more valuable the remaining pieces become.
