Unfortunately, sometimes the things you say in your past can come back to bite you later on in your career and that's exactly what is happening now with Domi after signing with the Leafs. Not only has Domi taken some flak for his political leanings, but he is also taking heat now for the way he talked about the Leafs during his time with their archrival Montreal Canadiens.
In the clip below, Domi can be heard chirping the Leafs and boasting about being a Montreal Canadien, proudly speaking about the organization's record 24 Stanley Cups - also stating that "Montreal is better" than Toronto.
Look, I get it. People who are unhappy with the signing need something to talk about - but what was he supposed to say? He was literally employed by the Canadiens organization. The media was poking and prodding at him for his commentary on the Leafs and he responded with what he thought they wanted to hear.
Domi grew up a Leafs fan. He grew up in Toronto while his dad played 10-plus seasons with the Leafs. It was also reported by Brad Treliving that Max was "dying" to play for the Leafs.
Personally, I don't think there's anything to Max's comments from his time in Montreal other than him just being a good Hab. Of course he didn't want to pump the tires of their most-heated rival. I have no problem with the video and I'm very much looking forward to watching Domi play his heart out with the Maple Leafs crest draped across his chest. Plus, I'm sure he'll have plenty to say about other teams during what should be a boatload of media attention for him this season.
