Unlike Reaves and Bertuzzi, Domi has longstanding ties with the organization, as his father, Tie Domi, shed his blood, sweat and tears for the team over 12 of his 16 NHL seasons, all while a young Max Domi watched from the family box at the then Air Canada Centre.
Domi met with the media after Wednesday's morning skate ahead of what will be his first official game in a Leafs sweater - something he has dreamt of since he was just a kid. Domi opted to wear the number 11 when he signed with the Leafs, but many had wondered if that was more to do with the fact that former teammate Sam Lafferty was in possession of his dad's #28. When asked by the media whether he plans to make the switch from 11 to 28 now that Lafferty has been traded, Domi revealed that the thought hasn't even crossed his mind.
After signing Domi to a 1-year, $3M deal this summer, Leafs GM Brad Treliving revealed that Domi wasn't brought in because of his family legacy. He was brought in because of the merit of his body of work at the NHL level. It would appear as though Domi wants to try to establish his own legacy, which is certainly respectable.
