A lot was made of the trade deadline situation that unfolded between the Anaheim Ducks and Vegas Golden Knights involving Ryan Kesler's LTIR contract and Golden Knights winger Evgenii Dadonov. For those who may have missed it, Dadonov was trade from Vegas to Anaheim, but the trade was later voided because the Russian winger had Anaheim on his 10-team no trade list.

After a thorough investigation into the matter, it was understood that the Ottawa Senators had never disclosed the modified no-trade clause to the Golden Knights when Dadonov was traded to Vegas last year, therefore, Vegas was unaware of the player's rights to block a trade. This is something that embarrassed the NHL and it appears as though there may be changes on the way.

According to TSN's Pierre Lebrun, the Dadonov voided trade fiasco may push the NHL towards creating a tracking system of its own for NTC lists.

"Here's the thing. A no-trade list is submitted solely between a player agent and the club. The league and the NHLPA do not keep track of a no-trade list. I think the NHL will push for a change where the league's central registry, and maybe the Players Association, gets a copy of these no-trade lists."

- LeBrun on the subject of the league keeping track of NTC's

Nothing like a situation where the league ends up with egg on its face to force action to prevent such an occurrence from happening again. Bettman doesn't like to be the butt of the joke, unless it's being booed at the draft or while awarding the Stanley Cup, apparently.
