If Sabres forward and NHL veteran Kyle Okposo's comments on Friday are any indication, Power is ready to take that step this season. Okposo told the media on Friday that Power reminds him of another elite defenseman from a decade ago.
With Karlsson recently having a few forgettable seasons with the San Jose Sharks, it's easy to forget just how dominant he was when playing for the Ottawa Senators. The Swedish blueliner was regarded as one of the best defensemen in the NHL, having six seasons with 62 points or more, and he almost carried the Sens to a Stanley Cup Final in 2017.
Power receiving this kind of comparison from his teammate is a massive compliment. Although he played just 8 games in his first look in the NHL at the end of last season, he did not look out of place and seemed to be an immediate fit in the Sabres top-four. Power played well at both ends of the ice in those 8 games, notching 3 points and a +3 rating. The 6'6" blueliner will look to be an impact player for the Sabres this upcoming season.
It will be interesting to watch Power play a full season and see if he can prove comparisons such as these to be true.
