Nick Robertson comments on hit from Ian Cole and Max Domi immediately having his back
Late in the first period of last night's game against the Vancouver Canucks, Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson was hit by Vancouver's Ian Cole as he looked to head up ice with the puck. It was a massive hit and I'm sure the some were concerned about Robertson, but almost before he could get back to his feet, Max Domi was already entangled with Cole, gloves off, attempting to avenge his linemate.
It wasn't much of a fight, as Cole decided to pin Domi against the boards and hold on for dear life for the majority of the altercation, but Domi still received an instigator penalty. It was also the second fight of the first period for the Leafs as Mark Giordano and Dakota Joshua dropped the gloves a few minutes before.
Following the game, Robertson was asked about the hit and Domi's instantaneous reaction to it.
"I mean, I don't know. It's hockey. You're going to get hit. So, I'm not going to sit here & cry about the hit. It is what it is. So, I just take it like that. I'm happy Max stepped up for me & away we go It just shows the character of our group. He's a skill guy too. He's not really known [as] a fighter, but he has that feistiness in him & for him to stand up for me there, it's great to see."
Robertson also admitted that he needed a handful of stitches to close a cut he got as a result of the hit. In addition to the stitches, Robertson also collected a goal, while Domi added two assists as the newly formed third line of the Leafs seems to be finding its groove.
