Nick Robertson's previous 2 pre season games were, in Sheldon Keefe's opinion, the best he'd ever played in a Leafs jersey. Thanks to his hard work and incredible shot, the former Peterborough Pete was promoted to the Leafs 2nd line for Monday's tilt against the Montreal Canadiens.

During the 2nd period, Robertson showed just how badly he wants that roster spot on opening night. The California native outworked every Canadiens player on the ice, drawing the attention of everyone before feeding a slick pass to a wide open William Nylander. Nylander doesn't often miss from that close with that much time, and certainly didn't miss on this play, roofing the puck on a beautiful backhand shot for his 2nd goal of the game.

All Robertson needs to do at this point to lock down the 2LW slot is to keep playing the way he has been. The 21-year-old has waited patiently, battled through injuries and now appears to finally be ready to contribute at the NHL level. If he can, he could be a huge boost to the Leafs' already lethal offense.
