Thursday evening in New York was the scene of the Leafs' season finale against the New York Rangers. In a game with no real playoff implications for either team (save for the off chance that the Leafs can lock up 2nd overall in the league standings), we didn't think we'd see much in the way of game-swaying calls. Well, we thought wrong.

With the Leafs having just successfully challenged a Rangers go-ahead goal, William Nylander was attempting to poke the puck off of Alexis Lafreniere's stick, but instead, tapped Lafreniere on the pants. Of course, Lafreniere felt the tap and did his best Tim Stutzle impression, diving to the ice to draw the call. Think I'm exaggerating? Have a look for yourself.

Had Michael Bunting done this, you already know he'd be serving two minutes for diving/embellishment. Instead, Lafreniere is given complete impunity by the officials and Nylander went to the box. Of course, Artemi Panarin notched the go-ahead goal on the ensuing power play.

Thankfully, Nylander scored the game-tying goal shortly thereafter, his 40th of the season, and the Leafs went on to win the game by a score of 3-2, finishing the season on a 4-game winning streak.
