Some breaking news in Edmonton as head coach Dave Tippett has been relieved of his coaching duties after losing 3 of the team's last four games.

The Oilers have had more downs than ups this season, having dealt with two separate losing streaks of 6+ games, the Oilers are running out of runway to turn this season around and the playoffs are slowly slipping away.

Tippett has been the head coach in Edmonton since the 2019-20 season and has not been past the first round of the playoffs in his last 7 seasons as a head coach, failing to qualify for the playoffs 5 times over that span, stemming back to his time in Arizona.

Per reports, Jay Woodcroft will take over as head coach in Edmonton. Woodcroft was an assistant coach in Edmonton for 3 seasons from 2015-2018 before becoming head coach of the team's AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors. Woodcroft won the Calder Cup with the Condors last season.
