Somewhat surprisingly, Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin was very non-committal about where or not he would suit up for Game 1 against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night.

Just over one week ago, the Leafs were in Washington to take on the Caps. The game was a close one, tied 1-1 in the third period, when Ovechkin was sprung on a breakaway. He was a bit off balance as he approached Leafs goaltender Erik Kallgren, and bobbled the puck at the same time that Kallgren dove out for a poke check. The end result was Ovechkin falling over and sliding into the end boards.

The collision with the end boards didn't look like much, but it did force Ovechkin out of the game, and he did not return - nor did he play any more games at the end of the season. On Sunday, Ovechkin revealed that he's not sure yet whether or not he'd be ready to go for Game 1. "We'll see", he said. Ovi did add, however, that he could have likely played one of the final 3 regular season games, but that since they weren't playoff games, the Caps and their captain opted to play it safe.

If Ovechkin is indeed too banged up to suit up in Game 1, that would be a massive opportunity for the Panthers to get out to an early lead in the series. However, by the sounds of things, he does not plan to sit out any playoff games.
