As we ring into the new year, a pair of Toronto Maple Leafs' goaltending prospects really stood out in the month of December and have really opened the eyes of those in Leafs Nation, giving them a lot of hope for the future in goal in Toronto.

The Score's Kyle Cushman declared Artur Akhtyamov first star of the month among all Leafs prospects in the month of Decemeber. Akhtyamov, who currently plays for Neftyanik Almetievsk of the VHL, is 17-7-2 with a 1.53 G.A.A and a league best .949 SV%. He was even better in the month of December as he posted a ridiculous .977 SV% in 5 starts, which included 3 straight shutouts.

An honourable mention shoutout goes to Dennis Hildeby, who is currently playing for Farjestad BK of the SHL. The former 4th round pick posted a .956 SV% in 4 starts in December and improved his season numbers to 7-4-0 and a .930 SV% in 11 games.

At least for now, it seems like the goaltending pipeline is churning out some pretty good prospects, which bodes well for the future of our beloved Toronto Maple Leafs.
