Ahead of their game against the Cleveland Guardians, the Angels invited Ducks' youngsters Troy Terry and Mason McTavish to throw opening pitch. Rather than throwing, pitching, or lobbing it as most would do, the NHLers decided to kick it up a notch by shooting the baseball to their respective catchers, adding their own unique flavour to the popular pre-game event to open the game. Have a look:
The 3rd overall pick from 2021, McTavish enjoyed a successful rookie campaign with the Ducks, scoring 17 goals and racking up 43 points, while Terry scored 23 goals and 61 points in just 70 games. Terry also earned himself a lucrative long-term contract earlier this summer.
The Angels have been notoriously bad with 2 generational talents on their roster in Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani and are likely on the verge of missing the post-season once more. The Ducks are entering 2023-24 with the "rebuild" tag yet again and have not yet hammered down a deal with Trevor Zegras or Jamie Drysdale.
