Two former Maple Leafs got in with PTOs at the 11th hour, with Brandon Kozun and Dmytro Timashov looking for another opportunity to play in the NHL. Kozun, 33, will attend Colorado Avalanche training camp while Timashov, 26 is hoping to land a deal with the New York Islanders.
Timashov had his NHL contract terminated back in October of 2021, playing the last two seasons with Brynas IF Gavle in the Swedish Hockey League after playing parts of two seasons with the Islanders' AHL affiliate in Bridgeport. Timashov played his last NHL back in the 2020-21 season with the Isles. HIs final game as a Leaf took place back during the 2019-20 season before he was traded to the Detroit Red Wings. He posted 33 points in 52 games for Brynas last season.
Kozun was a bit of a different case, having played the 7 of the last 8 seasons in the KHL, with a brief stop in the Swiss-A League with Ambri-Piotta in 2021-22. He played his last NHL game in his rookie season with the Leafs, back in 2014-15. Kozun notched 10 goals and 24 points in Minsk Dynamo last season, suiting up in 41 games.
