The NHL offseason is typically very busy for the most part, at least at the start. It's chock full of contract negotiations, trades, the draft and free agency and, unless you're living off the grid, it's tough to avoid the wave of reports linking teams to various players or announcing new contracts and extensions.

New York Rangers forward Artemi Panarin revealed in a recent interview that living off the grid is exactly what he did this summer, so he was largely unaware of the moves that the Rangers had made until he had had the chance to communicate with his girlfriend, Alisa Znarok.

"Alisa told me the news, who was traded, who was signed, back and forth. To be honest, I didn't want to think about it. There will be no Ryan Strome - but what's there to think about in the summer? What could I change?"

"I lived ten days without a connection in the woods. A worker there had wi-fi in his cabin. But I don't need it for fuck's sake," Panarin continued. "My friend Artem and I would get up at 4:30 in the morning and go fishing an hour later. We sat with our fishing rods, practiced, and by 11 am had already done everything. What a day! Beautiful!"

"What internet? What news?! Then we went - we ate handfuls of strawberries in the woods. My face was red from the juice, my soul was happy," Panarin said.

In all honesty, as exciting as the offseason is for us as fans, it's a lot different for the players. A lot of nerves are involved, not knowing where you'll play next season or whether or not your close friends will be moved. Maybe Panarin had the right idea.
