Early in the first period of last night's Game 2, Sam Bennett decided to put Matthew Knies in a headlock behind the Florida net before tackling him to the ice awkwardly in what can only be described as a backyard wrestling move. Knies played a couple more shifts but did not return to the game following the end of the first period.

Many Leaf fans believe Bennett should have seen supplemental discipline for his actions against Knies. Well, Bennett did receive supplemental discipline for his actions last night, but not in the form of a suspension and not for his actions against Knies. He was, instead, fined $5K for cross-checking Michael Bunting in the head.

Not only did Bunting get cross-checked by Bennett in the head, but once he went down, Bennett cross-checked him again in the back knowing that he was already getting a penalty. Remember when Auston Matthews got 2 games for a cross-check on Rasmus Dahlin a few years ago that started on his shoulder pad and rode up into his neck? How was that worth 2 games, but a shot directly to Bunting's head/neck isn't even worth a game?

Once again, the Department of Player Safety is showing its bias against the Leafs and its inconsistency in handing out supplemental discipline as Bennett is a repeat offender. Absolutely shameful stuff from noted Leaf hater George Parros.
