Kane has made it known that he'd have liked to have been reunited with former teammate Artemi Panarin. The pair played in Chicago for only two seasons, and Kane outwardly expressed his disappointment when Chicago traded Panarin to Columbus in 2017.
One thing that needs to be considered when looking at the Kane situation is that he has a no-move clause with Chicago, which puts him in complete control of the situation. If that's the case, why didn't he say that if he wanted to play in New York with Panarin so badly before it was too late?
From his comments today, it seems Kane doesn't know what he wants but is publicly venting about a team who he wanted to play for, but that didn't trade for him. It's an interesting situation, to say the least, but maybe we will see a blockbuster trade involving Kane by the trade deadline on March 3rd.
Kane has also been vocal about his desire to share the ice with Auston Matthews at some point before he retires. The two thought they might have that chance at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing before those plans came to a screeching halt. Could Kane look to make a brief stop in Toronto by way of a trade at this year's deadline? He holds all the cards with his NMC, but if his desire to play with Matthews is anywhere near his desire to play with Panarin, perhaps he won't want to face the same disappointment if/when the Leafs trade for someone else.
