Mrazek has two years left on his deal, and although his cap hit is $3.8M, the actual cash owed to him the next two seasons is $4.2M and $4.4M, making low budget teams like Arizona and Ottawa, who use bad contracts to hit the cap floor, unlikely candidates to take on the extra cash.
Given that Dubas said he wants to see his prospects start producing and holding spots at the NHL level, and given that the prospect pool is thinner than it should be (thanks to poor drafting from Mark Hunter), it's possible that the Leafs buyout Mrazek instead. The Leafs have until July 12th to decide if they want to buyout his contract should they be unable to trade him. It's going to be a long month for Dubas and company, figuring out what to do to create more cap space.
