Most of that production comes from John Tavares and William Nylander, who are both leading the team in points so far this season, along with Mitch Marner. The winning goal in last night's game against the Boston Bruins, scored by Auston Matthews, happened because of a highlight-worthy play by Nylander. The Leafs' second line has been the most productive line thus far.
With as good as Nylander and Tavares have been, Kerfoot has also had his chances on that line. I'm still not convinced that he's the best long-term option there, but if he can bring a certain level of consistency to that line and allow Tavares and Nylander to be at their best, then he's certainly adding something to that line and should have some consideration to remain there.
That's not to say a switch-up wouldn't be good, either. It's been proven that Matthews and Nylander are a dangerous pair and that Tavares and Marner play well together too. Regardless, the second line is showing up and I don't think anyone is upset about that.
