Michkov's father had reportedly been missing for two days prior to the discovery of his body in a pond, per Sports Express. Per draft and prospect analyst Chris Peters, there are reports surfacing that a full investigation is now underway. Obviously, this is purely speculative, but you'd have to imagine there was some foul play involved here.
The timing is never good for news of this nature to drop, but to have something like this happen less than 3 months before his son is drafted into the best league in the world is absolutely heartbreaking. For the Michkov family, this must be absolutely awful and our hearts go out to them.
Michkov, 18, is expected to go very early in the draft in June - perhaps as high as 3rd overall. The downside of the pick is that Michkov still has several seasons remaining on his KHL contract before he'll ever become eligible to jump over to North America.
Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to the entire Michkov family. This is news that you never want to hear or have to share, especially in such an exciting year.
