With training camps opening up in the coming weeks, we can expect to see most players, making their way back "home" to their respective teams soon. This doesn't seem to be the case for 2018 first round pick Nils Lundkvist unfortunately.
Per Larry Brooks, The New York Rangers are looking to trade the right handed defenseman before their training camp commences. The Swedish blueliner refuses to report to training camp, which doesn't put the Rangers in a great spot.
Moving Lundkvist was probably the best move for both the Rangers and Lundkvist anyway, due to the log jam on the right side in NYC. It doesn't make sense for Lundkvist to get buried in the AHL if he's ready to play in the NHL.
The 22-year-old was selected 28th overall in the 2018 draft. He has played a total of 25 games for the Rangers and recorded one goal and three assists for four points.
