Drafted in the seventh round, 188th overall by the Leafs in 2014, Pierre Engvall was considered a long shot to make the NHL, but after 5 years in the minors and in Europe, Engvall became a regular NHLer in the 2019-2020 season. A "homegrown" talent of sorts for the Leafs as they drafted and developed him, Engvall was always a very good skater, but lacked scoring ability and for a man of his stature, was seen as "too soft" by Leaf fans for years.

A few days prior to the trade deadline this past season, Engvall was traded to the Islanders for a third round pick to free up cap space to allow the Leafs to acquire the likes of Luke Schenn, Jake McCabe and Sam Lafferty. Following a fairly productive stint where he had 9 points in 18 games with the Islanders to end the season, Engvall signed a 7-year extension.

On today's episode of 32 Thoughts, Engvall was asked about his time in Toronto and had nothing but good things to say.

"Can be a hard market to play in but it can be to your advantage too. The media was always good to me. I have nothing bad to say about Toronto. You can feel more pressure, I think it was great to play for Toronto. It really gets you ready for what's coming next and I think I developed good in Toronto."

The pressure in Toronto isn't for everyone, as that is what sent Ryan O'Reilly to Nashville as well, but for someone that was polarizing in the eyes of fans based on his play, Engvall handled it very well. The 6'5 forward seems to have found a more comfortable place in Long Island with a system that is better suited to his game.
