Refs announced for Leafs/Panthers Game 3; the Leafs are officially screwed
The Leafs had been able to avoid a certain official since early in their series against Tampa. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end and the timing couldn't be worse for the Leafs, already down 2-0 in the series against the Panthers.
For Game 3 in Florida, the Leafs will unfortunately have Wes McCauley as an official and he will be joined by Dan O'Rourke. Yes, the ever-so-popular McCauley, who has a well known conflict of interest in Leaf games due to the past conflict with Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe. The Leafs are 0-9 in their last 9 playoff games with McCauley as an official and if you'll recall, he was also the referee of record in the game that had Sheldon Keefe fined $25K during the regular season.
It sounds like tonight could be a very long game for the Leafs. Not to mention, they will have to avoid any type of retaliation on Sam Bennett as McCauley will likely only be taking one player from the scrums, which was often a Leaf the last time he officiated a game.
