The Vancouver Canucks made a splash yesterday when they named Jim Rutherford president.
Rutherford will be in charge of the general manager search and handle transactions until then.
That GM search might not take long though as their top target has been identified and he sits in the Toronto Maple Leafs' organization.
According to NHL insider Darren Dreger, current Leafs' assistant general manager Laurence Gilman sits at the top of the Canucks' list.
However the Canucks have some competition as the Chicago Blackhawks are also showing interest in Gilman.
Gilman previously served as an assistant GM for the Canucks.
