The Leafs had a pretty decent summer by most people's standards, which is why their struggles this season were unexpected and probably seem much worse than they actually are. The expectations were high and, so far, the team has underdelivered.

Among the names that GM Kyle Dubas added this summer were Matt Murray, Ilya Samsonov, Calle Jarnkrok, Nicolas Aube-Kubel and Jordie Benn. One name who many were hoping that the Leafs might pursue was Max Domi, son of former Leafs fan-favourite Tie Domi. Well, according to Real Kyper and Bourne's Nick Kypreos, the Leafs did make an offer.

Kypreos revealed this week that Dubas did in fact reach out to Domi during free agency this summer, but that the offer that was made to the 27-year-old was substantially less than he was offered elsewhere. In the end, he signed a 1-year deal with the Chicago Blackhawks worth $3M.

Thus far this season, Domi has scored 4 goals and added 3 assists for 7 points. If he produced at the same rate for the Leafs, he'd be tied with Auston Matthews and Morgan Rielly for 4th in team scoring. His 4 goals would put him in a 3-way tie for 1st in team scoring with John Tavares and William Nylander.
