Lehner first purchased the exotic snakes back in 2017 for $1.2M and after a tumultuous first few years with the original owner Ben Renick, who was killed by his wife in 2017, Lehner formed RL Exotics LLC. It was formed in 2019 to "operate a reptile farm in Plato, Missouri, which is an operating business with 3 employees, and which requires reptiles to be maintained and fed."
The filing lists Lehner's liability between $10-50 million, and lists the same lending agency that was sued in Evander Kane's bankruptcy and has a lengthy history of defaulted loans, including some with with NFL running back Adrian Peterson and MLS left-back Kemar Lawrence.
The bankruptcy claims that Lehner's debts are "primarily based on business debts that were incurred to help obtain money for a business or investment."
In the past, Lehner has battled addiction and has had help with his mental health. Hopefully Lehner will be able to settle this issue before he resumes playing so that it does not distract him from regaining a starting job for the Knights or another NHL team.
