Midway through the third period of a must-win game for the Winnipeg Jets against the Minnesota Wild, Ryan Hartman threw a vicious, violent hit on Jets' forward Nikolaj Ehlers in the neutral zone. It was very clearly interference as Ehlers was nowhere near the puck. In fact, Hartman played the puck just moments before delivering the bone-crushing hit.
Ehlers remained down for a few moments before skating to the Jets' bench as it appears he just had the wind knocked out of him, but that didn't stop the Jets from jumping Hartman, who was assessed with a double minor for interference and for roughing.
The league may look into supplemental discipline for Hartman based on the fact that Ehlers didn't play the puck at all and was on the receiving end of a reverse hit. We won't know until later today.
