Avery has played over 500 NHL games between the Rangers, Red Wings, Kings, and Stars. The opinionated ex-winger is known as one of the biggest pests in NHL history and he even has a rule created because of how he screened Martin Brodeur during the 2008 playoffs.
Avery finishes his time with the Solar Bears with 0 games played, 1 practice, and a lot of publicity for both him and the Solar Bears.
I sort of wonder if this had anything to do with the ECHL intervening before Avery, Georges Laraque and Matthew Barnaby all had the chance to
sign deals specifically to just fight. You'd have to imagine that the league doesn't view itself as a complete sideshow.
Further to that, these former NHLers don't need to be taking up roster spots from players who actually want to play the game.
While his comeback was short-lived, who knows where Avery will end up next? Until then, he'll likely go back to raising his child, acting, critiquing hockey games on Instagram, and policing New York City's bike lanes.
