The Leafs exacted revenge on the Seattle Kraken in a good old fashioned blowout on Sunday, avenging a loss by the same 5-1 score to the Kraken earlier this season. The reunited trio of Matthews, Marner and Bunting were electric in their first game back together, combining for 7 points. John Tavares, Mark Giordano and Timothy Liljegren also found the back of the net. Speaking of Giordano, he moved into sole possession of the all time blocked shots record during the game as well. It was a near perfect evening for the boys in blue. So of course, someone had to try to ruin it.

Root Sports, the local broadcast partner for the Seattle Kraken, were clearly not happy about the way the game was going. With the Leafs up 5-1 in the third period. Two messages were displayed on the scoreboard.
Toronto Maple Leafs last playoff series win: 2003-04

Toronto Maple Leafs last Stanley Cup: 1966-67

The commentary team on the broadcast also spent time comparing the Leafs to the New York Yankees of the MLB and the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL, both teams are, like the Leafs, ridiculed for their post season struggles. Sure, the messages displayed may be factual, but to highlight them during a game where the Leafs are blowing out the home team just comes off as sour grapes.
Leaf fans have heard all the jokes a million times over. They're so stale by now that they don't hurt our feelings in any way, shape or form. All it tells us is that somebody in that broadcast booth was upset. Being that they were mad about the Leafs winning, seeing that anger actually brings me joy.
Better luck next time Seattle!
