The Leafs have dug themselves a bit of a hole in their series against Florida, currently down 2-0 to the Panthers after the first two home games of the series. However, it wasn't for a lack of trying, as the Leafs have controlled the lion's share of the high-danger scoring chances. Through 2 games, the Leafs have had 36 high-danger chances to Florida's 19, but for whatever reason, they can't seem to solve Sergei Bobrovsky.
TSN's Shawn Simpson took to Twitter on Friday to rub some salt in the wounds for Leafs Nation, likely for a ratings boost, since his Ottawa Senators didn't even qualify for the postseason. Nevertheless, Simpson took his opportunity to dig at the Leafs, calling into question their D pairings and goaltending on Friday.
The funniest thing about this post is that the Leafs just took out the Tampa Bay Lightning in Round 1 - a team that has been to 3 straight Stanley Cup Finals and a team who has won 2 Cups over the last 3 seasons. Not only that, but they did it in 6 games, stealing 3 games from Tampa in overtime - IN TAMPA.
Here's a thought, Shawn.. maybe wait until your team qualifies for the playoffs to start talking about which teams do and don't have the necessary pieces to compete for a Stanley Cup. The ice has been tilted heavily in the Leafs' favour in this series and there's still a lot of hockey left to be played. Beyond that, it's not as though Florida's D pairings have anyone shaking in their boots - or Ottawa's for that matter.
