In the coming weeks, we'll see a first-time Stanley Cup Champion crowned in either the Florida Panthers or the Vegas Golden Knights. Following the conclusion of that series, we'll begin the countdown to the 2023 NHL Entry Draft and free agency, which are set to take place on June 28th, 29th and July 1st, respectively.

The Leafs have one first-round pick in this upcoming draft, which they acquired from the Bruins via the Capitals in the trade that sent Rasmus Sandin to Washington. That pick will have them drafting 28th overall. However, if they want a higher draft pick, there is still a way to achieve that.

A fourth-overall pick wouldn't be too shabby. For reference, the Leafs drafted Mitch Marner at #4 back in 2015. There's no question that an absolute game-changer could be available there. The question is, how lofty would San Jose's ask be? Another question is, would the Leafs be willing to part with a core piece in a deal to snag the 4th overall pick?

The Leafs have now filled their GM position, with Brad Treliving landing the gig. Would he be willing to put together a package to move up into the top-5? That remains to be seen. For now, though, we know that the pick in San Jose is available, for the right price.
