Friedman announced on Wednesday morning that the Leafs are expected to officially announce Treliving as the club's new GM on Wednesday with a formal press conference to take place on Thursday.
Treliving had spent the last 9 years as GM of the Calgary Flames. He was let go by the organization after the Flames failed to quality for the playoffs this season after major moves to bring in Jonathan Huberdeau, MacKenzie Weegar and Nazem Kadri didn't work out as intended in year one.
The Leafs have some major decisions coming up regarding a few members of their core, as well as 21 UFAs and RFAs who are due new contracts. With free agency set to kick off in just one month's time, Treliving will be a busy man over the next 31 days in preparation of July 1st and the opening of free agency.
At this point, it would appear as though Sheldon Keefe is likely to stay on as head coach, though Treliving will have a chance to make a decision on his coach in the coming weeks as well. I highly doubt he'll want to add a search for a new coach to his laundry list of tasks that lie ahead.
