The Leafs have a day off on Tuesday and I'm sure that, rather than dwelling on another disappointing loss and a lackluster effort, they're laying poolside at the hotel, out enjoying The Strip or visiting Freemont and having some fun in old Vegas. They're expected to get back to work, with a practice in Vegas on Wednesday before flying to San Jose for Thursday's game against the Sharks.

I'd imagine that we'll have an update on captain John Tavares tomorrow either before or after practice. In case you missed it, Tavares was caught in a soft spot behind the knee by an absolute bullet of a shot from Leafs defender Rasmus Sandin in front of the Vegas net last night. After being struck in the knee, Tavares was absolutely writhing in pain on the ice and needed the help of his teammates to make it back to the bench, where a pair of trainers were waiting to escort him back to the locker room to evaluate him.

Amazingly, Tavares did return to the game and took shifts, though an update on his status was not available after the game. When asked about the injury following the loss, Sheldon Keefe said that he had not heard anything from the team's medical staff yet and that "those are the kind of things that just take a little time to settle down."

Tavares was not made available to the media after the loss so, naturally, he could not comment on the severity of his injury. It's certainly a positive that he returned to the game and appeared to be moving alright, so whatever it was that caused him so much initial pain may have ended up being minor.
