When Jake McCabe went down with an injury on Thursday in Dallas, there was an immediate feeling of concern regarding what might happen with the Leafs' D corps moving forward. Defense has already been labelled an issue in Toronto in the early stages of the season and with McCabe being one of the better defensive defensemen on the team, such a loss for any length of time is tough to overcome.

On Friday, Sheldon Keefe couldn't provide much of an update on McCabe's status, as McCabe's MRI was taking place at the same time as Maple Leafs practice. However, he was able to provide an update on Saturday, ahead of the team's final game of their 5-game road trip. Thankfully, it was good news.

Keefe revealed to the media after Saturday's morning skate that McCabe's MRI results were a "best-case scenario". Now, that's not to say that McCabe was able to avoid an injury. Keefe mentioned that McCabe will not play on Saturday, but he did say that the injury is not expected to keep McCabe out long-term, which is good news.

Keefe could not offer much in the way of a timeline, however, stating that McCabe would be back "before too long". Still, with McCabe being a rock for the Leafs on that second pair, it's good to know that he won't miss a lot of time, especially right at the beginning of the year.

McCabe has no points through 7 games thus far, but has racked up 9 blocked shots and 12 hits. He had averaged a little under 19 minutes of ice time per game over his previous 4 games, excluding the 10 seconds he played in Dallas.
