Thomas Plekanec last played in the NHL during the 2018-2019 season with Montreal before heading back home to play with Rytři Kladno in the top Czech league the team Jaromir Jagr owns. He has spent the past 6 seasons there, but unfortunately, just 9 games into the current season, Plekanec has retired from professional hockey at the age of 40 due to injuries.

Plekanec was traded to the Leafs ahead of the 2018 trade deadline. He registered four points in seven postseason games as the Leafs were eliminated in the first round by Boston. Plekanec then returned to Montreal as a free agent that off-season.

Plekanec was drafted 71st overall in 2001 and made his debut in the 2003-2004 season. Plekanec had 608 points in 1,001 career games over 15 NHL seasons.

We'd like to wish Pleks all the best in the next chapter of his life. It's unfortunate how his career ended, but it's good to know that, rather than prolonging things and attempting to play through injury, he's making the right decision for he and his family and is going out on his own terms.
