During Thursday night's win over the Dallas Stars, McCabe had an awkward moment while skating back towards his own end in a race to secure an icing call. He went down on one knee mid stride and left the game shortly afterwards.
Without McCabe in the lineup, the Leafs' D corps begins to look awfully thin. It would appear as though defensive depth wasn't exactly a priority for Brad Treliving over the summer. We know that the Leafs would like to add another defender, but the salary cap has certainly gotten in the way of that.
Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe met with the media following practice on Friday. When asked about McCabe's condition, Keefe noted that the Leafs are still waiting for MRI results, but added an ominous prediction.
The Leafs have already recalled William Lagesson from the Toronto Marlies. Lagesson will likely make his Leafs debut on Saturday against the Nashville Predators. If McCabe is out long term, one would have to think that Treliving will go looking for defensive help on the trade market. The Leaf' D corps is simply too soft without him.
