Sheldon Keefe's media availability after Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Coyotes was dominated by questions about goaltending. Between Mrazek's horrific outing and Kallgren's surprise debut, it's not surprising the media in attendance wanted to hear Keefe's thoughts on both.

Regarding Mrazek, Keefe was obviously not impressed by his starting goalie.

To be honest, I wanted to [pull Mrazek] after 2 [goals].

Keefe went on to explain that on the 3rd and 4th goal, he didn't blame Mrazek. But after the first 2 goals where Mrazek was swimming out of his crease, they needed a save. Keefe said he was hesitant to pull Mrazek because of the tough situation he would be putting rookie Erik Kallgren in. Unfortunately Mrazek left him no choice.

Petr, through his career, has been a better goaltender than he has been here for us. So we have to own part of that, we have to help him be the goalie that he has been through his career.

The Leafs' head coach wasn't shy about complimenting Kallgren's play. Kallgren was excellent, making a highlight reel save in overtime before allowing the winner on a shot he never had a chance of stopping.

The time that he was in the net, he made the team feel comfortable, confident. That's a goalie's job. I think our fans recognized that. The fans were terrific - I loved how they welcomed him into the game.

Keefe was asked if he would give Kallgren the net going forward, but instead of committing to an answer one way or another, Keefe chose to reserve judgement until Kallgren can process his tumultuous first game.

Let's give him some time to enjoy the night. Who knows if his family is even watching the game? Let's give him some time to connect with people and talk about this experience here.

Keefe went on to comment that they need to find some stability in the net. Depending on how things go in the nest couple days, Kallgren's first NHL start just may be outdoors at the Heritage Classic in Hamilton. How cool would that be for a rookie netminder!?
