Patrice Bergeron has been a model of consistency throughout his career. Not only has he been offensively productive, but he has always played a defense first game. His defense first style of play has led to him being nominated for the Selke trophy 11 times in his 18 year career and he was awarded his record setting fifth Selke trophy today.

In a video call to accept the award, Bergeron said, "I'm humbled by the honour and sharing this with teammates, past and present, my coaches, trainers, and the whole Boston Bruins organization". Bergeron won the award in a landslide, receiving 160 of 195 first place votes.

Not only did Bergeron win the Selke today, but it was also revealed that he underwent surgery on his elbow this past Tuesday. He is expected to be ready for training camp as recovery is only 10 weeks. That is good news for the Bruins who will already be without 3 of their top 6 defensemen and Brad Marchand for the first 3-4 months of the season as they all recover from various surgeries.
