Marner, Nylander and Matthews are the only three Leafs to crack 30 points so far this season, but it won't be long until John Tavares joins them, as he's currently sitting with 28 points.
The core four have been so crucial to the team's success and it's gained attention for the club, but of course, other teams and their fans will stop at nothing to rain on the Leafs' parade.
Yes, McDavid, Draisaitl, Hyman & Nugent-Hopkins collectively have 31 more points than the Leafs' core, and that can't be argued. However, one crucial thing to consider with those points is how they contribute to the teams' overall performance.
The Oilers are currently 4th in the Pacific Division with a record of 16-12-0, which has them a wild card spot in the Western Conference. The Leafs are 18-5-6, ranking them in 2nd place in a much tougher Atlantic Division and giving them a solid spot near the top of the Eastern Conference. They're only one point behind the league-leading Bruins and Devils, both tied with 43 points.
So, yes, the Oilers' core does have more points than the Leafs, but they should consider how they still have bigger fish to fry when it comes to what their production should be contributing to.
