Sportsnet Analyst says there's a lot of Matthews chatter right now and it's not good news for Leafs fans

While many like Frank Seravalli, Elliotte Friedman and Chris Johnston have said from the beginning that Matthews will be staying in Toronto for the forseeable future, Kypreos revealed today that he doesn't think he will be Maple Leaf after next season.

"I think there's a lot of people that believe Auston Matthews could leave... a lot of people that I talk to on a consistent basis," said Kypreos about Matthews' pending UFA status.

Keep in mind folks that this is the guy that thought the Leafs should have traded William Nylander for Nick Ritchie and we all know how that turned out. So, I would take what Kypreos has to say with a grain of salt. For Matthews to leave Toronto, things would have to go very bad, very quickly and for those of you saying that he will leave if the Leafs don't make it out of the first round, just a reminder that it took Alex Ovechkin 12 years to get past the second round and Nathan MacKinnon 9 years to get passed the second round (3 of those seasons the Avalanche didn't even qualify for the playoffs). Neither player wanted out.

Since he can't sign an extension until the Summer in 2023 anyway, discussing it at length is sort of a moot point. The Leafs will surely want an answer from Matthews before next season begins so we will simply have to play the waiting game.
