Spurgeon shows intent to injure with cross check on Buchnevich; this one should get a look from the league

The Leafs weren't the only team that got a shutout in Game 1 on Monday night, as the 2019 Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues blanked the Minnesota Wild 4-0 on the road as well. The Wild now have some question marks after the game. Marc-Andre Fleury wasn't great, stopping just 27 of 31 shots and it's unknown if they'll run it back with Fleury for Game 2 or go with Cam Talbot, who had been the Wild's number 1 for the majority of their season. This isn't the only question surrounding the Wild however as they could be without their captain after a dirty cross check.

Late in the game, a frustrated Jared Spurgeon cross checked Blues forward, Pavel Buchnevich. It wasn't an ordinary cross check however, as Spurgeon went for Buchnevich's ankle and it looked like an attempt to injure.

What may save Spurgeon and the Wild is the Buchnevich skated away and there appears to be no injury from the incident. Either way, it's a dirty play that deserves consequences. Whether that be from the league or having to answer the bell in Game 2 is still unknown.
