Of course, the biggest and most asked question is who will be between the pipes for the Leafs if they can't agree on an extension with Jack Campbell. Chris Johnston was on TSN 1050 today and said that the Leafs are looking at goalies in the $1M to $2M range, that are reclamation projects or below the radar type goalies. That narrows down the number of candidates significantly if they aren't resigning Campbell and offloading Petr Mrazek's contract.
The candidates that the Leafs could look at within that salary range include Ilya Samsonov (RFA), Martin Jones, Braden Holtby, Phoenix Copley, Malcolm Subban and Scott Wedgewood. None of which have been true starting goalies in the past couple seasons. The most logical option for the Leafs would be the veteran presence and Stanley Cup winner Braden Holtby. With the Leafs apparently revamping their entire goaltending department, Holtby could be the perfect fit for the Leafs.
Regardless, if the Leafs don't bring back Campbell, I'm not sure trusting a reclamation project or below radar type goalie to be your starter when the team is trying to get over the first round hump is such a great idea.
