Initially, reports said Nylander was seeking upwards of $10M per season on an 8-year deal while the Leafs were hoping to sign him to an AAV between $8M and $9M. Neither side had seemingly budged much during negotiations throughout the summer, but according to The Leafs Nation on Monday, talks have recently progressed and have taken a turn in a more positive direction.
Whether that means one or both sides have moved on the dollar amount and/or term remains to be seen, but progress is progress and it is good news for Leaf fans. In the meantime, Nylander will continue to go about his business the way he always does this summer, living his life, traveling and preparing for the upcoming season.
He hit a career high 40 goals and 87 points, also a career best, this past season.
