This year, we saw the Hawks move on from the likes of Alex DeBrincat, Dylan Strome, Dominik Kubalik, Brandon Hagel and Kirby Dach. Once the deals of Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews are up next summer, it's likely that they both depart as well. There is, however, another piece they're trying to move.
According to Scott Powers of The Athletic, the Blackhawks have been trying to move defenseman Seth Jones. Unfortunately for the Hawks, former GM Stan Bowman left Jones with a nice parting gift, in the form of an 8-year, $76M contract, which is set to begin this season.
Powers stated that, while teams are interested in Jones as a player, they're not remotely interested in the $9.5M cap hit that he carries. In other words, unless the Hawks are willing to eat a large chunk of his salary for 8 years, which they'd be nuts to do, it's almost a foregone conclusion that Jones will remain in Chicago.
