Terrifying turn of events in Detroit leads to very tough announcement regarding Dylan Larkin
During a Saturday afternoon game between the Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings, Wings Captain Dylan Larkin was involved in a scary incident. In the first period, while the Wings were on a powerplay, Larkin was standing in front of the Senators net when a scramble ensued. In the middle of the scramble, Larkin was cross-checked in the back of the head by Ottawa's Mathieu Joseph. The impact sent Larkin forward and sent him into the fist/forearm/elbow of another Senator, Parker Kelly.
The combination of the two points of contact led to Larkin falling to the ice, motionless and unconscious. He remained on the ice, not moving, for at least a minute before he was helped off the ice by teammates. Joseph did not receive a penalty for the cross-check or any supplemental discipline.
The Wings have since confirmed the worst for Larkin, that he will be out indefinitely with no timetable for his return. The Wings placed him on LTIR and head coach Derek Lalonde said they would know more in the coming days.
It has been an awful month for Larkin and his family, as prior to his injury Saturday, he announced that he and his wife Kenzy, had lost their child due to complications.
