Well, this evening, Hockey Canada released their roster for the 2023-24 World Junior Championship tournament, and not only did Minten make the cut, as expected - so too did Cowan, which was a shock to some, considering the fact that he wasn't originally projected to make the team.
Following the announcement, the Maple Leafs were excited to share the news on Twitter/X, posting a picture of Minten and Cowan sporting matching Canada sweaters.
Both Minten and Cowan impressed in training camp this fall, with Minten actually making the NHL roster out of training camp. However, both were ultimately returned to their respective Junior clubs with the expectation being that both would challenge for a spot on Team Canada for the popular U20 tournament. Now, that goal has become a reality.
Minten has tallied a combined 15 points across 13 games this season, split between his former Kamloops Blazers and his new team, the Saskatoon Blades. Meanwhile, Cowan has lit the OHL on fire, producing 39 points in 23 games.
Congrats to both Leaf prospects. Go make Leafs Nation and your entire country proud!
