The Calgary Flames have made lots of noise this off-season and for the right reasons. General Manager Brad Treliving has had a busy few months losing Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk while also bringing in Nazem Kadri, Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar. The Flames also brought back defenseman Mark Stone on a PTO and are expected to sign him to another 1-year deal.

Unfortunately, the Flames are now in the news because they are reportedly the front runners for former Vancouver Canuck and suspected malefactor Jake Virtanen, who recently beat a sexual assault lawsuit following allegations that stemmed from an incident back in 2017 involving a single female complainant.

According to Tom Gazzola, Virtanen has an emotional connection to Calgary, where he played his junior hockey. Virtanen played his junior career for the Calgary Hitmen from 2011-2015.

Should the Flames elect to bring in Virtanen, it will certainly taint the positive off-season the Flames have had. However, given the depth of the Flames at forward, it is unlikely Virtanen will find a spot with them even if he does ink a PTO.
