Things started horribly for the Leafs, down 2-0 after an abysmal opening 20 minutes, down 4-1 after two. The Lightning were running them out of the building and, by all accounts, we appeared destined to head back to Toronto with the series knotted at 2-2.
Then, with just over 10 minutes left in the third period, Auston Matthews woke up. 2 goals from the two-time Rocket Richard Trophy winner and the Leafs were back in it! Next, who else would score the tying goal but Game 3's OT hero Morgan Rielly? Sporting two black eyes and bearing a striking resemblance to Gary Roberts, Playoff Mo came through again. Another overtime, another puck thrown into traffic in front of the net, Kerfoot gets a stick on it and becomes the overtime hero that we ALWAYS believed he could be, right??. The Leafs' bench went wild, Maple Leafs Square went wild, fans across Canada woke up loved ones screaming and cheering, and the Tampa Bay Lightning felt a very human chill crawl up their spines.
Joe Bowen once said in an interview "lots of great memories, but my favourite call hasn't been made yet." Chalk this one up as another great memory, maybe on the way to his long awaited favourite call. You can feel the passion he has for the team in every call, and better yet, you can hear the energy in his voice rise with every goal in the comeback. Without further ado, here it is. The full highlights from last night with Joe Bowen and Jim Ralph. Enjoy my friends!
