When the Arizona Coyotes surprisingly announced that they were placing Alex Galchenyuk on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a buyout, many people were wondering what happened considering the fact that he was signed only a week and a half prior.

Shortly after it was announced that Galchenyuk's contract was being terminated, news broke that he was involved in a hit-and-run incident, was booked in city jail on the 9th of July, and then released the following day. Charges included private property hit and run, disorderly conduct, failure to obey, and resisting arrest.

Now we have learned the intricate details as to what actually happened and it's rather disappointing to say the least.

Galchenyuk was threatening the police officers who showed up to the scene. From the Scottsdale Police Department, reports confirm that Galchenyuk had told officers "I'm gunna chop [up] you, your wife, your daughter," while also being overheard as saying "One phone call and you're all dead, your whole family, your blood line is dead," police said in the report.

Galchenyuk also uttered a racial slur to one of the officers in training. Something that he later told officers he was joking about.

The Coyotes released the following statement:

"We are aware of the incident involving Alex Galchenyuk and strongly condemn this type of behavior. Once the club was made aware of the allegations, we immediately began the process of terminating his standard player's contract through the proper channels in conjunction with the National Hockey League. As a result, the Arizona Coyotes today have exercised the team's right to terminate the contract of Alex Galchenyuk due to a material breach of the terms of his standard player's contract. The Club will have no further comment at this time."

Galchenyuk was drafted 3rd overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens. He has played in 654 games across 11 seasons with the Canadiens, Coyotes, Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota Wild, Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Colorado Avalanche. He has 146 goals and 354 points and safe to say he hasn't met his lofty draft projections.
