Last season, after Evander Kane had reportedly violated the NHL's COVID-19 protocols for the 2nd time, the San Jose Sharks had placed Evander Kane on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a contract termination. The move cost Kane $22.885M over the remainder of his contract and Kane and his camp filed a grievance for what he felt was a wrongful termination.

We haven't heard much about the grievance since last season, and Kane not only signed a 1-year deal with the Edmonton Oilers last summer, but he also signed a new 4-year, $20.5M extension to remain in Edmonton through 2025-26.

Many had assumed that we'd have seen a resolution to the Kane/Sharks grievance by now, but according to the latest news, we appear to be just as far away from a settlement now as we were last season, with both sides having dug their heels in.

We now await the decision of an independent arbitrator to see whether the Sharks will be forced to pay out at least some of Kane's contract. Kane remains focused on clearing his name and being absolved of any wrongdoing.
